There are conditions that would prevent a person from being able to work with Iboga. Our determinations are based on scientific findings in the Ibogaine Manual, which was crafted by experts in the field over many years of experience.
We also employ an on-site doctor, who conducts EKG’s and medical checkups on all guests prior to ceremony.
The following conditions would exclude an individual from Iboga:
- Pregnancy
- Heart Condition — This is the most important factor. Heart transplant, bypass, enlarged heart, previous heart attack, artificial valves, pacemaker, prolonged Q-Wave Syndrome, Arrhythmia/Atrial Fibrillation/Ventricular Tachycardia, abnormal EKG, abnormal heart rate of 120 BPM and higher or 50 BPM and lower. If you have questions please get in touch.
- History of blood clots/thrombosis/deep vein thrombosis
- Abnormally high or low blood pressure — ~70/105 and higher, or ~80/60 blood pressure medication. Depends on the physical body of each person and is assessed by your doctor or medical professional.
- Tuberculosis
- Severe Sleep Apnea
- Severe Asthma
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Emphysema
- Severe Respiratory Condition
- History of stroke, seizure, epilepsy
- Severe Vertigo
- Meneire’s Syndrome
- Chronic/severe dizzy or fainting spells
- Abnormally high or low blood pressure — 70/105 and higher, or 80/60 and lower while not taking blood pressure medication
- Impaired Liver Function — abnormal liver panel test with enzymes over 200% from normal — a panel test may be required for those with Hepatitis or chronic alcohol use prior to clearance
- Impaired Kidney Function — currently on dialysis for kidney failure— a panel test may be required for those with Hepatitis or chronic alcohol use prior to clearance
- *Severe* Gastrointestinal Disorders — Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease GERD, Crohn’s Disease, ulcers, Colitis, IBS — slight disorders must be assessed by a medical professional prior to invitation.
- Any person requiring medications during the ceremony — certain medications may be acceptable, please inquire
- No Thyroid function or removal of Thyroid — Many times it is okay, but please make sure you let us know of your thyroid condition, and we will have a medical doctor assess prior to clearance
- Severe depression/current suicidal thoughts — individual screening determines eligibility
- Severe bipolar disorder — individual screening determines eligibility
- Extremely poor health — active Cancer, complications from HIV/AIDS, etc.
- History of blood clots/thrombosis/deep vein thrombosis
- Morbid Obesity
- Neurological Impairment — those with psychosis, autism, dementia who are unable to understand why they are taking Iboga
- Currently taking Benzodiazepines — Benzodiazepines must be stopped 30 days prior to a ceremony or session.
- Currently-dependent alcohol users — those who experience shaking/Delerium Tremens/seizures from alcohol detox must be treated at a medical facility prior to Iboga, and must continue to refrain from alcohol for at least five days prior to arriving at our facility>Although we are a healing center that focuses on a non-Western, non-clinical and shamanic approach to ceremony, we require an EKG approved by a doctor who meets with each guest prior to ceremony, and have a nurse onsite from the afternoon of day two to the morning of day seven. If you don’t have any major heart issues, medical/medication contradictions or conditions, then iboga is generally safe. 99% of any deaths I am aware of are typically related to ibogaine, which we do not do, and during a drug detox, which we also do not do.If you do have any questions about your heart we encourage people to get their EKG beforehand.
If you get an EKG at the location (no known heart issues), you get a check up by a doctor and the EKG.When you do our guest history questionnaire you must be honest on any forms that you submit about your background.
It is important to list everything, including any medical conditions, medications, supplements, or other well-being practices.
We do have a nurse onsite from the afternoon of day 2 to the morning of day 7 and a doctor on call.We have had many people in their 70’s and even 80’s go through this process.
It is very safe when used in the right way.In case of emergency we have the tools on hand, defibrillator, atropine, injectable magnesium, etc.
Hopefully we don’t ever have to use it, we haven’t thus far over the last 10 years.
We are 20-30 minutes from the nearest hospital. We have been to the hospital once in the last 11 years and it wasn’t a medical emergency and was due to a guests taking supplements on their own without asking us beforehand.
I have heard of 1 death from a psycho-spiritual experience.
Where it is dangerous and where all the deaths come from are hardcore drug addicts in withdrawal taking ibogaine. In contrast, this sacred plant is very beneficial and research shows it healthy and beneficial for a wide range of physical problems.
We encourage people to do a before and after picture, you can see the health and balance in people afterwards.
